Local authorities are currently struggling with the dilemmas of fiscal tightening, population growth straining
infrastructure, aging infrastructure and changing regulations. HJK is supportive of the notion that local
authorities rationalise their resources relative to less regularly occurring capital and community projects
to have them resourced by suitable private sector ones.
HJK has stepped in to deliver in roles at Porirua City Council where staff have been away for extended periods and
on specific projects where no resources were available in house and the deliverables or time constraints were
important to meet.
HJK developed a team to scope, design and deliver a new cemetery master plan and physical infrastructure at
Whenua Tapu cemetery north of Plimmerton in Porirua. Later, HJK was asked to assist the community projects
team with leading that group while its leader was away for 3 months. This also involved providing a directing
role for the $1m Waitangurua Park project which was a delightful project to be involved in through the strong
community input to the end result.
Finally HJK managed the redevelopment of the council works depot offices
into a much more useful and pleasant space for that team to work in.
These projects involved local architectural,
civil, structural, surveying and building services consultants to successfully bring these projects together.
HJK has received commendable comments and references from the client on these projects
